WATER SAFETY STATEMENT ISSUED FOR THE QUINTE CONSERVATION WATERSHED DUE TO LARGE AMOUNTS OF RAIN AND SEASONALLY HIGH WATER LEVELS

Three large rain events over the last two weeks have contributed to approximately a month’s worth of rain throughout the Quinte Watershed. This has resulted in seasonally high water levels across the region’s lakes and river systems. In some areas, water levels are comparable to spring averages.

QUINTE CONSERVATION ISSUES A WATER SAFETY STATEMENT DUE TO LARGE AMOUNTS OF RAIN EXPECTED THROUGHOUT THE REGION

Local weather forecasts are predicting 40-50 mm of mixed precipitation, including rain changing to snow, throughout the Quinte Conservation Watershed Wednesday night and throughout Thursday. Quinte Conservation will be conducting the annual fall dam draw down in the Moira and Napanee regions on, or after, Tuesday, October 12, 2021. Shoreline residents can expect changing water levels above and below the following structures:

DAM OPERATIONS AT SECOND DEPOT LAKE AND BELLROCK IN THE NAPANEE REGION WATERSHED MAY AFFECT ICE CONDITIONS
Dam operations will continue at Second Depot Lake in an effort to ensure adequate flood storage for the spring. In addition to Second Depot Lake Dam, Quinte Conservation is operating Bellrock Dam in order to draw down reservoir levels.
