Special Projects
Quinte Conservation works on special projects with partner organizations. These projects teach us about the watershed or improve the environment.
Bay of Quinte and Lake Ontario Shoreline Management Plan
We are working with local municipalities, the Government of Canada's National Disaster Mitigation Program, and project consultants to develop a Shoreline Management Plan. The purpose of the plan is to collect information to further aid shoreline protection measures to help safeguard coastal communities from hazards related to flooding and erosion.
The first public consultation period will be held virtually from October 6th to October 31st. More information, presentations, and a public input survey are available to view on the project's webpage.
Drought Management Planning
We have developed a regional drought management plan for our member municipalities to help them mitigate and adapt to drought. The plan provides background information about local droughts, a drought warning plan, roles and responsibilities, and recommended actions for drought preparation during normal conditions and each drought level. This project has been completed and is available on our Climate Change Page.
Stormwater Management Implementation Planning
The stormwater management special project aims to improve the local understanding of stormwater systems and stormwater treatment. We will achieve these goals through education programs, demonstration projects, and studies of municipal infrastructure. This project will be completed in the spring of 2022.
