HEAVY RAINFALL IN THE NAPANEE WATERSHED HAS PROMPTED DAM OPERATIONS.
Significant amounts of rain received in the Napanee Watershed have caused beaver dams to collapse, prompting dam operations. Water Resources Manager Christine McClure says, “Quinte Conservation is operating dams in the Napanee Watershed to alleviate the impacts of significant amounts of localized rain received over night and into Monday. Residents may experience changing water levels which may impact docks on rivers and lakes.”
McClure adds, “Residents in regions of the upper Napanee Watershed may experience water over roads.”
Quinte Conservation monitors rainfall at specific locations throughout the Quinte Conservation Watershed. The data collected allows staff to determine areas of concern. Prior to the rain received over night and into Monday, water levels on rivers and lakes were above average for this time of year. Areas that received the most rain, such as the upper Napanee River, will see the largest impact as well as downstream sections of the river.
A flood warning remains in effect for the Bay of Quinte and Lake Ontario.
This message will be in effect until (or updated before) Monday, July 31, 2017.
A Water Safety Statement indicates that high flows, unsafe banks, melting ice or other factors could be dangerous for users such as anglers, boaters, swimmers, children or pets. Flooding is not expected.
