FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: March 29, 2019
FLOOD OUTLOOK EXTENDED AS QUINTE CONSERVATION CONTINUES TO MONITOR CONDITIONS
Up to 35 mm of rain is expected across the Quinte Conservation Watershed this weekend. Temperatures reaching a high of 10 degrees is forecasted for the southern regions of the watershed. Northern Regions can expect warmer conditions as well, but temperatures may not reach the same high. Warm temperatures will continue into next week from Tuesday to Thursday.
Rainfall and snowmelt will cause an increase in water levels on rivers; however, significant riverine flooding is not expected at this time.
Water Resources Manager, Christine McClure says, “Staff will be completing snow surveys on Monday. We will then have a better indication of the amounts of snow remaining in the northern regions and how that will contribute to water levels.”
Staff will continue to monitor conditions and will provide an update if forecasts and conditions change. For current water levels or to report any observations of flooding, residents are encouraged to visit QuinteConservation.ca.
The public is reminded to stay off ice and avoid river banks and shorelines.
A Flood Outlook Statement gives early notice of the potential for flooding based on weather forecasts calling for heavy rain, snow melt, high wind or other conditions that could lead to high runoff, cause ice jams, lakeshore flooding or erosion.
This message will be in effect until (or updated if anything significant changes before) Wednesday, April 10, 2019.
