2025-05-05 MINISTRY APPROVES AMENDMENTS TO THE QUINTE SOURCE PROTECTION PLANThe Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks approved amendments to the Quinte Source Protection Plan, Assessment Report and Explanatory Document on April 30th, 2026. The amendment includes:
•Better source protection measures for the prescribed instrument policies, and
•Alignment with the 2021 Technical Rules under the Clean Water Act, 2006.Quinte Conservation completed the amendments in accordance with the legislative and regulatory requirements set out in the Clean Water Act, 2006 and Ontario Regulation 287/07 (General).

2026-05-01 THE QUINTE SOURCE PROTECTION AUTHORITY CALLS ON FEDERAL GOVERNMENT TO ENHANCE EXISTING PASSENGER RAIL SERVICE INSTEAD OF MOVING FORWARD WITH HIGH-SPEED RAIL PROJECTAt its meeting on April 16, the Quinte Source Protection Authority passed a motion stating that the proposed high-speed rail project would have significant negative impacts on sources of drinking water across communities within both the northern and southern corridors of the project. Due to these concerns, the Authority does not support the project as it is currently proposed.

Weather conditions that have occurred during the holiday weekend (rainfall and warm temperatures) have started the second phase of the freshet, with some rivers moving towards flood levels.

2026-03-26-THE QUINTE CONSERVATION BOARD OF DIRECTORS PROVIDES COMMENT ON THE ALTO HIGH-SPEED RAIL PROJECT
In a motion put forward by Board Member Kathryn Brown through a virtual vote in March, the Authority determined that it has a mandated responsibility under Ontario’s Conservation Authorities Act to ensure that development and infrastructure projects within its jurisdiction do not negatively impact the integrity of the watershed.
