A SPRING WATER SAFETY REMINDER FROM QUINTE CONSERVATION
This spring, Quinte Conservation encourages everyone to enjoy outdoor activities safely and to stay cautious around fast-flowing and ice-covered water.
At this time of year, rivers and streams have elevated water levels, strong currents, and very cold temperatures. As air temperatures rise, melting snow and spring rain can increase water levels and create dangerous conditions.
Stay Safe!
• Stay back from riverbanks and shorelines.
• Stay off ice-covered water. Never walk on ice that is breaking up.
• Keep pets and children away from fast-moving water.
Cold water can cause shock and hypothermia within minutes. If you see someone fall into the water or through the ice, call 911 or emergency services immediately. Do not attempt a rescue yourself.
