Carbon Offsets
Quinte Conservation is leading the way in Improved Forest Management (IFM) practices and has been recognized on a provincial level for cutting-edge stewardship and forest certification through the Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) and the Sustainable Forestry Initiative® (SFI®).
The Quinte Forest Carbon Project is a voluntary program that allows Quinte Conservation to reduce harvesting pressures and support non-timber uses on the properties - which prioritize long-term, ecosystem restoration.
So far, Quinte Conservation's 30,000 acres of forested lands are part of the carbon offset project. By working with a broker, like Anew Climate LLC., these properties are able to generate credits under a voluntary carbon standard. The carbon credits deliver high-integrity, verifiable carbon offset options to climate conscious companies.
The revenue generated from this program funds the Woodland Preservation Trust, which is used to support a variety of watershed programs and projects that significantly improve the conservation value of the property. This ensures long-term forest ecosystem health and high-quality wildlife habitat in addition to avenues for nature-based education and public access to Quinte Conservation's properties. Funding could support land acquisitions, improved public access and safety, and the expansion of educational opportunities.
