A woman in nature, stands at phone booth using a unconnected telephone

Sidney Conservation Area's Wind Phone

Quinte Conservation’s strategic direction embraces well-being—honouring the places where people come to breathe deeply, slow down, and reconnect with the natural world.

To say hello. To say goodbye. To say, until we meet again.

A wind phone is simple in form, yet profound in purpose. It offers a quiet refuge for those carrying grief, a place where unspoken words can finally find their way out. Here, visitors can share memories, speak their hearts aloud, or whisper a final farewell—trusting that the wind will carry their words gently onward.

The wind phone at Sidney Conservation Area grew from inspiration found around the world, but strengthened by the thoughtful installation at Ball’s Falls Conservation Area. Guided by Hospice Niagara and the Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority, Quinte Conservation worked with Barnaba, a skilled and passionate volunteer, who hand-crafted the phone booth from a felled tree found within the conservation area.

Today, the wind phone at Sidney stands as an open invitation: a place for anyone who needs a moment of reflection, connection, or peace, held in the quiet and under the canopy of the trees.
